Christopher Newton

  • Christopher is a Senior Hydrogeologist and Chartered Geologist with over 18 years' experience in contaminated land and hydrogeology in Ireland and the UK. Christopher sits in the Ground Engineering group in the Dublin office of Arup. He is on the IGI Register of Professional Qualified Geoscientists / Competent (in respect of environmental risk assessment for regulated and unregulated waste disposal and contaminated land) and has recently completed a diploma in Planning and Environmental Law at King's Inns, Dublin. His project experience includes assessments of the impacts of land contamination on human health, groundwater and surface water, ground gas risk assessment, quantitative hydrogeological risk assessment of contaminated land and landfills (groundwater pollutant modelling), asbestos in soil, design of site investigations for land contamination assessments, waste classification, reviewing reports for private and state bodies and acting as an expert witness in land contamination matters.

  • Siobhan is a Senior Lecturer at Queen's University Belfast. Her research interests include risk assessment of contaminated sites including human health risk assessment, the use of bioaccessibility testing, and differentiating between geogenic and anthropogenic sources of contamination. Dr. Cox has also considerable industrial experience of leading the assessment and management of contaminated land, successfully delivering multi-million pound construction projects as a contaminated land consultant, before entering academia in 2003. She is currently a project leader on the €3.7M REMEDIATE Marie Curie ETN and a work package leader on the £550k InnovateUK funded LowCoPreCon project.

  • Anne Marie is a Senior Specialist with ESB International with over 17 years' experience, having worked as an environmental specialist in Ireland, Northern Ireland, UK, Azerbaijan and America. Anne Marie is a Chartered Environmentalist and a Chartered Scientist in the UK and Ireland (CIWEM). She holds an honours B.Sc. (Geol) degree from the UCC, M.Sc. in Environmental Engineering from Trinity College Dublin. Her areas of expertise include waste management and environmental liability assessment in relation to soil, ground-gas, air quality, construction noise, surface water and groundwater risk assessment and remediation.

  • Owen is a freelance environmental advisor working with clients who acquire and develop brownfield sites throughout Ireland. Owen is the founding Chair of the Ireland Brownfield Network and is a former environmental insurance broker, consultant and regulator. His 20+ years' experience and expertise in quantifying and managing environmental liabilities has earned him a reputation as being a pragmatic problem solver dedicated to the appropriate and sustainable redevelopment of brownfield sites.

  • Olivia is Managing Director for CHC Environmental Solutions Ltd - an independent environmental consultancy specialising in the areas of contaminated land, risk assessment, remediation, and environmental liability management working on sites across Ireland and the UK. Olivia has worked in the environmental industry for 16 years. Prior to setting up her own business, Olivia worked as remediation design engineer, working on over 2,500 sites across Europe, the Middle East and the US. Olivia holds a PhD in the use of stable isotopes as a forensic tool to evaluate the fate and transport of chlorinated solvents in the environment. Olivia also holds an MSc in Environmental Engineering and a BSc in Environmental Science. Olivia is a a Chartered Environmentalist (CEnv) with the Society for the Environment.

  • Olivia is a Senior Environmental Consultant with over fifteen years' experience in Environmental Engineering focussing primarily on contaminated land assessment and remediation, waste management and Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and planning. Prior to joining Arup and Malachy Walsh and Partners (MWP), Olivia gained experience working in local authorities in Ireland. Olivia is recognised by Engineers Ireland as being suitably qualified and experienced to carry out risk-based assessment certifications of historic landfill sites and contaminated land sites.

  • Claire Clifford is Technical Director with Enviroguide Consulting where she manages the contaminated land group. Claire's experience includes work in Ireland, UK and Canada on a range of brownfield sites for clients in the industrial, property development, petroleum, pharmaceutical and waste sectors. Her areas of expertise include contaminated land and hydrogeology assessments in particular human health and environmental risk assessments and remediation of brownfield sites as well as site investigation, waste classification and project management. Claire has a BSc in Geology from the University College Cork and a MSc in Environmental Sciences from Trinity College Dublin. Claire is a Professional Geologist (PGeo) with the Institute of Geologists of Ireland (IGI) and is listed on the IGI Register of Competent Persons for Unregulated Waste Disposal/Contaminated Land Assessments.

  • Dr. Chaosheng Zhang is head of the GIS Centre, Ryan Institute at National University of Ireland, Galway. His academic background covers both GIS and environmental geochemistry, with his research focusing on spatial analyses of environmental variables and geo-statistical techniques. He has published more than 80 peer-reviewed papers and has strong international research experience in China, Sweden, USA, Australia, Jamaica and Ireland. He is Chair and organizer of two internationally-leading conferences on environment and health.

  • Rory is an Associate Director in AECOM's Energy, Water and Environment business, based in Dublin. Rory has extensive technical experience in environmental assessment and contaminated land site investigation on pharmaceutical, manufacturing, industrial and brownfield redevelopment sites throughout Ireland. Alongside his contaminated land work, Rory also has experience in implementation of the EU Emissions Trading Scheme, preparing Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Permit Applications and assisting technology, pharmaceutical and manufacturing clients in meeting their GHG monitoring, reporting and compliance requirements.

  • Matteo is an Associate Director in AECOM's Environment, Water & Energy business, based in Dublin. Matteo graduated in 2014 with a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD), Civil, Structural and Environmental Engineering from Trinity College Dublin.

  • Rebekka is a Senior Environmental Consultant with over ten years' experience in Environmental Engineering. Prior to joining Belfast City Council as a Contaminated Land Officer, Rebekka gained experience working at RPS, AECOM and the Society of Brownfield Risk Assessment. Rebekka studied Engineering at Queens University Belfast, is a Chartered Member of the Institute of Water and Environmental Management (C.WEM) and a Chartered Engineer (CEng).

  • Oisín Doherty is an Environmental Consultant at ORS with over 12 years’ post-graduate experience in public and private sector environmental services. Oisin has developed a broad range of experience whilst working throughout Ireland and Northern Ireland in several areas including Renewable Energy, Environmental Monitoring, Environmental Compliance and Waste Management. Oisín attained a BSc. in Geography from Ulster University; and a MSc. in Environmental Management from Queen's University Belfast. Oisín is also a Full Member of Institute of Environmental Science (MIEnvSc) and a Chartered Environmentalist (CEnv) with the Society of the Environment.

  • Rory is an academic that applies chemistry, geophysics and microbiology to environmental problems to produce viable engineering solutions. His interests lie in Sustainable Remediation of Pollution, Identification and apportionment of Potentially Toxic Elements, Restoration of Peatlands, The Circular Economy, Reuse & Recovery of Hazardous & Valuable Materials. Rory is Lead coordinator and scientist in chief of the EU Marie Curie Innovative Training Network: REMEDIATE (2014 -2018); Total Project Value €4 million which has 12 PhDs across 6 Beneficiaries with over 15 project partners from industry and the public sector.

  • David is a qualified, experienced and chartered (CEnv) environmental professional specialising in contaminated land site investigation, assessment and remediation. David provides bespoke environmental advice for the management of legal, financial and reputational liabilities associated with owning, developing, managing and regenerating contaminated and brownfield land in Ireland, the UK and further afield.
